Merryn spent much of her early childhood telling stories to herself, which enabled her to be both long-winded and a captivated audience. Fortunately for her writing progress, future audiences have had higher standards. She is now a prize-winning author of mainly literary fiction and drama, with short stories widely anthologised and plays on Radio Scotland and Radio 4.

Her first novel A House Called Askival was published by Freight Books in 2014 and her second is with Curtis Brown literary agency. Brought up in South Asia, she did a teaching degree in Australia and now lives with her family in the Highlands of Scotland.

Her writing often explores the shifting territories of belief, culture, belonging and place, and she continues to have a passion for encouraging creativity and writing in others.

In 2019 she is Writer in Residence for The Cairngorms National Park.
