Deirdre Devlin

I’ve worked for the BBC for the past 25 years as a television news reporter, Politics Producer, Editor of Factual and finally as Executive Producer. In this role I’ve had responsibility for a variety of programmes ranging from factual entertainment, historic and political factual through to Drama. My time as Politics Producer coincided with a period of momentous, historical change in Northern Ireland during and after the Good Friday Agreement. It’s been an interesting and varied career.
Last year I took the life changing decision to relocate to the Highlands where I continue to work for the BBC as a freelance Executive Producer. I’m currently living in Inverness and love it. My main aim is to write. I’ve written two novels for children in the 8-10 age group. The first, Fogmakers is a spooky adventure involving peril in a strange land. Four children have to be very brave to overcome danger. It’s available from Amazon where it’s been getting great reviews. The second, a sequel is Terror in the Kingdom. This time I’ve secured an agent who is in contact with a number of publishers so fingers crossed!.
Inverness is a fantastic place to write and I’ve met so many people connected with books both here at HighlandLIT and through NessBookFest. I am also Chair of Replay Theatre Company based in Belfast which makes fantastic productions for everyone under the age of 19. This includes work especially for children with profound and multiple learning difficulties, for schools groups and for festivals.
